Grappa

It’s that time of the year again when I pack the pink chinos and make my annual voyage to Italy to meet with the fine folks of Wilier. It is a bit later than last year, which gives Italy a chance to get over their Giro hangover just in time for the chaos of the TDF. As always, I hate leaving the shop for a week during such a busy time, but the young guys and gals will hold the fort down in my absence. Shouldn’t have to remind everyone to be nice to them, I am a bit demanding of them so you need to offset me and bring them baked goods and smiles. Try not to ask any really hard questions otherwise they will be texting me at midnight in Italy, and remember its only bikes not life or death, so if they can’t fix the problem, I can deal with it when I get back with the best of my ability. I will try checking emails daily, try is the key word. To make everyone’s life easier I suggest calling the shop if you need anything or hey, come by in person. Remember when people shopped in person? I do.

So what does Wilier have in store for me this year? Well, hopefully I will be testing bikes, drinking coffee and lots of spritz. I presume we will get to try something new and shiny, who know maybe the new E Road bike ?! The hospitality that Wilier provides is 5 star and above anything I have ever experienced in the Bike industry, so I know I will not be disappointed. This year we are based out of Bassano del Grappa. It’s known for its wooden, 13th-century Ponte Vecchio bridge spanning the River Brenta. On the western bank, the Museo degli Alpini displays WWI artifacts. This is also the birth place Grappa and of Wilier in 1906. Pretty cool even if you are not into Grappa. It is also where the legendary climb of Monte Grappa is. This famous Giro climb was a key point during WWI and saw three major battles on its slopes. You can be assured my bicycle riding will take me up it’s many slopes.

I will be gone from Monday July 9th, and will be back in the shop Tuesday July 17th with a serious case of jet lag and some good stories to tell.

As you were.
