Gabba. The iconic piece of clothing created by Castelli and worn by so many pros when the weather calls for torrential ugliness. But to us Castelli is more than the Gabba. Castelli traces its roots back to Milan 1876 when a fine tailor named Vittore Gianni clothed AC Milan, Juventus and the Milan Ballet. The first cycling clothing was made in the 1910’s for World Champion and five-time Giro winner Alfredo Binda. In 1935 a young Amando Castelli joined Gianni’s staff and purchased the company in 1939 when Castelli was born. He continued to clothe iconic cyclists such as Bartali, Anquetil and Coppi and others. From then forward Amando’s son Maurizio continued to innovate and pioneered some of the most innovative pieces of cycling clothing. The vision still carries today as Castelli is continuously designing and coming up with some of the most amazing pieces of clothing made for Pro’s but also available to the everyday rider.
It is not always that a Cat 5 rider can get the same tech as the Pro’s but Castelli’s custom program allows teams to do just that. We all thought that skinsuits we just for TT’s but then Van Summeren wins Roubaix wearing a skinsuit with pockets made for bunch racing. Mind blown. The Sanremo suit is still in Castell’s lineup and can be had by us mere mortals too. We have had numerous custom branded PRW pieces done for the shop and to this day they are some of my personal go to pieces for when things get ugly, and believe me the weather in E-Town gets nasty. Don’t believe me? Come for a ride in May when its +20 or -10….
