De Rosa is a name that embodies what the sport of road racing is about: history, passion, dedication and suffering. Ugo De Rosa started welding frames in 1953 in a small workshop in Milan. By 1958 his meticulously crafted frames had reached the Pro ranks. Moser, Merckx, and De Vlaeminck are just some of the racers who won on De Rosa frames. De Rosa would be best known for his relationship with the great Eddy Merckx. It was Eddy who asked Ugo to become the official frame builder and mechanic for the Molteni team which he captained. The results were unprecedented, as Merckx and his teammates won nearly all the major races including the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia, Milano-San Remo and the World Championship. This partnership remained in effect until Merckx’s retirement in 1978. In 1981 Merckx again called upon De Rosa to be a technical consultant when he first set up his own bicycle manufacturing facility.

De Rosa is a company that still manufactures in Italy utilizing Steel, Aluminium, Titanium, and Scandium, in addition to Carbon Fibre. De Rosa first manufactured Ti frames in the early 90’s with the Gewiss Team who rode them to victories in the Giro, Milan San Remo and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. They currently offer fully custom frames, handmade in Italy, utilizing all 5 materials. Not many brands can attest to that. But you don’t need to believe me, type it into the google box and be prepared to have bike envy. De Rosa is a brand that has some serious lust behind it and rates very high on many people’s gotta-have-in-my-lifetime lists.

For 2022 Cofidis will again be flying the De Rosa banner in the Pro ranks. Built up with Campagnolo of course.
